A visit to Sri Lanka is a fantastic mix of cultur, history, nature, wildlife, beaches, food and leisure. The ancient cities like Anuradhapura and Sigiriya speak of kings and kingdoms longtime gone and a visit to the old Fort of Galle, the first city founded by the Portugese in the 15th century, transports you back into a still inhabited scenery, that looks very much the same as centuries ago. A train takes you from Ella to Nuwarelya and you find yourself in an english city, by the looks and also by temperature, since you are at about 1500 m above sea-level. You find numerous Buddhist tempels, from the ancient Dambulla cave temple to the Kandy Tooth temple as well as many „modern“ temples worth to vist.
The fantastic nature of Sri Lanka has a lot to offer: large wildlife parks, high mountains, all kind of jungles, rain-forest, tea-plantations and numerous fruits and vegetables. That brings us to an important matter: food. You will find almost every kind of food and dishes in Sri Lanka, all cooked fresh and deliciousy! And the all-time favourite is rice and curry, an endless varyity of curries, served with rice. But the highlight of Sri Lanka is the people: charming and always greeting you with a smile!
